At Värmlandsgården, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
We believe that true experiences in nature go hand in hand with responsibility. That’s why we take concrete measures to minimize our environmental impact and we invite our guests to join us in this shared commitment.
What we do:
Informing and inspiring our guests
Before any activity begins, we provide extensive information about Sweden’s right of public access (allemansrätten), nature conservation, safety, suitable camping spots, responsible toilet use in nature, fire safety, and waste disposal. We explain not just the rules, but the reasons behind them—so our guests understand the importance of their role in preserving this beautiful environment. We expect a respectful attitude toward animals, plants, landowners, and other visitors.
Care for campsites and landing spots
Before and after each season, we inspect and maintain all campsites and canoe landing spots. This ensures these areas remain safe, clean, and environmentally friendly. To reduce pressure on nature, we intentionally distribute our guests across different routes and time periods during the summer season, helping to avoid overcrowding in certain areas.
Nature maintenance
Accessible, well-maintained canoe and hiking trails are essential for a safe, enjoyable, and sustainable nature experience. That’s why Värmlandsgården actively contributes to the maintenance of the canoe and hiking paths around our area—working closely with the local municipality and the organization Hiking Värmland.
Through this collaboration, we ensure that:
- Existing hiking and canoe routes remain accessible for both beginners and experienced outdoor enthusiasts
- Trails are maintained in an environmentally conscious way, with respect for flora and fauna
- New signage, information boards, and rest stops are added or repaired where necessary
- Routes are designed to protect vulnerable natural areas and guide visitors responsibly through the landscape
Reducing the use of fossil fuels
Our own solar power system provides a significant portion of our energy needs in summer. This is a major step toward self-sufficiency and reduces our dependence on polluting energy sources.
Minimizing waste
We actively encourage our guests to limit and separate their waste. We provide clear instructions and practical solutions, such as waste bags and separate collection points in strategic locations. Every clean space starts with conscious choices—and we’re here to help with that.
Smart and efficient transport
We combine canoe and guest transport whenever possible to avoid unnecessary trips. Additionally, we limit our activities to within a 40-kilometer radius. This keeps our logistical carbon footprint as small as possible.
Working together on sustainability
Our entire team is actively involved in our environmental policy. We regularly discuss new ideas, set goals, and evaluate where improvements can be made. For us, sustainability isn’t a fixed task—it’s a living process that everyone contributes to.
Eco-friendly materials and reuse
Where possible, we choose reusable and eco-certified consumables and cleaning products. This ensures that even the smallest daily actions contribute to a larger purpose.
Sustainable building and maintenance
Our cabins (stugor) and service buildings are equipped with energy-saving features, such as LED lighting, water-saving devices, and good insulation—all aimed at reducing energy and water consumption without compromising comfort.
Supporting the Local Economy and Regional Cooperation
Our sustainable approach extends beyond the environment. We aim to contribute to a vibrant, healthy, and proud local community. That’s why we collaborate with local businesses and help strengthen the regional economy.
What we do:
Building strong networks with other local entrepreneurs
Collaboration is key for us. We actively seek out partnerships with other tourism providers in the region, so we can offer our visitors strong, sustainable experiences together.
Encouraging local purchasing
Where possible, we purchase products and services locally—from groceries to technical support. This ensures that our economic contribution goes where it matters most: to our neighbors.
